Cameron Highlands

Hello Walkers!

I am back for my Cameron Highland trip with family on 5 July 2014 - 6 July 2014.
We are travelling in a group of 15 person (3 cars - Citra, Persona, Kembara).
We started the journey quite late (around 2:30pm).

It took us about 3hours++ to reach our hotel/apartment where we had 1 stop in the middle.
We booked through Berjaya Vacation Club for our apartment and we got 2 units of 2-bedroom apartment.
Each unit has a queen-bedded room and 2-single bedded room. Rooms are spacious. There is lot of space where you can accommodate 1-2 more people in each room. Many pillows are provided. Each bed has 2 pillows (total 8 pillows on bed) and extra 3 pillows in the cabinet in each room. So total pillows available for each unit is 14 pillows!

Our room also has a balcony. We did not stay a lot out in the balcony because the weather is way too cold and it's windy outside. The temperature (based on the hotel gigantic thermometer) in the evening is about 17-18 degree Celsius while early morning is about 14-15 degree Celsius. Afternoon is about 20-22 Celsius. It is quite windy there. I was quite satisfied with the room where there's a big mirror in front of the bathroom/toilet. Bed was ok. Only that the floor is quite dusty. Other than that, everything is quite good.
Some hotel view
In the evening, we traveled to Brinchang for dinner. I have googled about the steamboat restaurant and it seems that Kwan Kee Charcoal Steamboat has quite a good review. It was only 10-12 minutes away from our apartment. We were there at about 7:00pm and it was crowded. However, the queue was fast. We waited for about 15 minutes for our table (we need 2 tables). Each person is RM23.00. As for my opinion, the quality of the food has gone way down. Very limited food (for steamboat). My grandparents ordered some of their "zhuchar". They were good. We had some stir fry deer meat and claypot toufu.
P/S: Go for their zhuchar instead, steamboat is just worthless.

We ended the night watching HBO in the room.

We woke up at 8:30am the next morning. It was way too cold (14 degree) that none of us wanted to get out of the blanket!

Anyway, we started our journey at about 9:30am to Tanah Rata to get our breakfast. We headed to Excellent Food Center.
Location: Opposite Hong Leong Bank, Tanah Rata
Business Hour: 7:30am - 8:00pm
Recommended food: Lamb Chop
If you are coming from Brinchang, the building will be on your left side. There is a parking area behind the building or else, you can just park at the road side.
Excellent Food Center. A wide range of food option in one stop!
Then we headed to Cactus Valley. I DO NOT RECOMMEND people with old people to come here because there are lots of staircase here. Like my grandparents (76 years old) are not able to climb up those staircase.
Entrance fee: RM5 - adult RM3 - children (above 5)

The upper side of the valley is under renovation for expansion purposes I guess.

Flowers are better then torns.
We went to Cactus View Restaurant for late lunch.
You will see this place first before Cactus Valley so no need to worry that you can't find it!

The environment was under average. Many flies flying. BUT. Food was good. Their bak kut teh were good (both dry and soup).

Cactus View Restaurant
Going upper part of the place is the Big Red Strawberry Farm. Very steep road up. Self-picking strawberry is RM25/500g. We think that it does not worth it because packed strawberry are much bigger and sweeter than those hanging readily for you to pick!

There is a cafe there where you can enjoy a wide range of strawberry-made food from strawberry with cream to strawberry juice.
Entrance Fee: FOC

Big Red Strawberry Farm
We went to the Lavender Garden on our way back to Penang the next day.
Entrance fee: RM5 - adult, RM3 - children
I personally feel that it does not really worth it unless you're a big fan of photographing. You can take lots of beautiful flowers here. We did not stay here long worrying that our strawberry that we bought might spoil in the car.
Cameron Lavender Farm
Most recommended place: Agro-Technology Park MARDI Cameron Highland.
Entrance: RM3 - adult, RM1.50 student (7-17 years old)
Location: JKR266, Jalan Persiaran Endah, Tanah Rata, 39000, Tanah Rata, Pahang, Malaysia

SUPER WORTH IT.
We spent more than an hour and a half here.Beautiful English sculpture and building makes everything so beautiful!

There's an area where you can pick your own berry (blackberries, raspberries) for free.
MUST VISIT.
We also visited the Time Tunnel.
Namely "TIME TUNNEL", we got to see old time favourite toys, old advertisement, old furniture and some other old stuff that my uncles and grandparents had before. It was fun listening to them talking about their old time memories
Entrance Fee: RM5 - adult, RM3 children.( above 5 years old)

I personally feel that it is less suitable for children below 5 because I can see that my 5 year old cousin feeling uncomfortable inside. If you know what I mean.
Have you seen these?
Feel free to comment below for any question or anything that you wanted to know about my trip. Hope that I can help you in planning your trip!

Happy Travelling!

Genting Highlands Trip

Hello Walkers!

I am back with my Genting Highland Trip update.
This is quite a late update so I hope you walkers don't mind. *smile*

Last mid semester break, my family and I drove to Genting Highland for a short escape. We depart from Penang at about 1100. We stopped at Jalan Meranti for late lunch. We visited  Restoran Lucky Light (幸运冷气海鲜酒家)to fill our hungry-tummy. The rain was heavy. So, we waited for a while after lunch before heading up the hill.

Driving up the hill was rather adventurous, maybe because that is my first time driving up such sloppy hill. We reached First World Hotel at about 1715. It was chill (around 23°C). Check in was fast because now they have this kiosk to speed up check in process. Check out was even faster! You just need to drop your key into the kiosk and sayonara off you go.

As you all may/ may not know, Genting Highland Theme Park (outdoor) is now under renovation, making their way to world's first 20th Century Fox Theme Park *scream*. So, if you're expecting for deadly roller-coaster, sorry. Come back in 2016. (well its 2016, I guess they are extending the date)

As for this matter, hotels rooms are now doing promotions. I managed to get room in First World Resort for RM 126 including breakfast + indoor tickets for two. Better than none. We still enjoy our relaxing moment entertaining ourselves with those indoor games.

Breakfast at the hotel was good. At least they served bread, porridge, local delights and cereals. As I have noticed, there is a lot of people visiting from China and South East as well. The dining area was big so no worry! They even serve vegetarian food, separated at the other side of the dining area.

We manage to visit Chin Swee Temple located at the middle of the hill. Bus transfer available at the entrance of First World Resort for every 1 hour. Bus transfer is FOC. Time was well spent at the temple. We manage to take lot of picture with the fog coming.

We also visited Strawberry farm. We travel down the hill by Genting Skyway cable car which is around RM 12 per adult for two-way (return). Reaching the station below, either you choose to walk for around 15 minutes or you can hop onto a taxi/ kereta sapu to the Strawberry farm. Taxi is at RM10 for one-way. I suggest that you take the taxi because he will not only fetch you to the Strawberry Farm but first he will first stop by a chocolate shop. You can shop and purchase some chocolate as souvenirs. I recommend the black sesame chocolate and the green tea ones. They were good.

At the Strawberry farm, I believe, it's not the strawberry ripping season or what, there were only a few strawberries growing. Other than strawberries, there is also a lavender farm nearby. Entrance is FOC. The lavender farm was rather small and not very stunning too. The best part is that we get to have some hi-tea at a cafe near to the strawberry farm. We tested their Fried Mushrooms and Strawberry Chicken Wings. *Thumbs up*. They were good!
