Hatyai, Thailand

Helloo Walkers!

I am back from my trip to Hatyai, Thailand from 2 May 2015 - 3 May 2015.
We are travelling in a group of 3.
Knowing that there will be a long holiday in Malaysia, at least for Penang (from 1 May to 4 May 2015), we departed to Dannok at 4.00am.

Reaching border at around 6.30am and there were already a few cars queuing for immigration checking, which will only open at 7am.

Note: Dannok is under road construction.

We took a van to Hatyai which cost us about 57baht/ person. There will be people asking if you are interested to go on a taxi which cost about 1000baht a car. I personally think it doesn't worth.

From Dannok - Hatyai●57baht/ person●located beside the first 7-Eleven on the left.

It took us about 45 min to reach Lee Garden, Hatyai. What we do first is to locate a place for us to buy Thai phone card. We went to 7-Eleven to ask about it but it was sold out. We came a across this small booth near Odean Mall. This lady is rather helpful helping us to reload (because my friend had her number from previous Thai trip). We bought the 300 baht card with credit to call and 1GB internet. We shared the internet services through HotSpot.

Booth that we got our phone card done
We proceed to Lucky Dimsum for breakfast. About 10min walk from Lee Garden. It is around 清姐猪脚饭. The staff will write down a number for you so give get your number!

We got out table after waiting for around 15minutes. Considered moderate since it is a peak hour/ peak season.
Did I mention all their dimsum is at 16 baht. Also their drinks.
Recommended: Bak Kut Teh 132 baht

Business hour
Our bill for the breakfast: 340baht.

We walked around Big Market, which is Hatyai famous morning Market. Im not sure if its the kimyong market. Took tuk-tuk from Lucky, which is around 30baht/ person.

Super-duper pack. Super-duper hot. The weather in Hatyai was killing. But able to get a few stuff at good money. Bought 2 sets of pajamas for 260baht, 2 cute printed tee for 300baht.

After shopping for about 1 hour 30 mins, off we go to check-in in Leevana Hotel.
Newly developed hotel but is about 7 mins away from the town area.
It was kinda difficult to stop a tuk-tuk too.
Leevana Hotel●RM168/ night●Triple-bedded●7 min away from city area

We departed to Khlong Hae, Floating Market at around 3pm (Thai-time). We were lucky enough to be able to stop a tuk-tuk from the road side. He charged us at 150baht from Leevana to Khlong Hae, waited for us and brought us to Central Festival Mall. The distance was quite far.

Food from Khlong Hae is from 20baht onwards. Do prepare umbrellas or hats/ caps if you're going in the afternoon because it's super-duper sunny.
Food from Khlong Hae. TO be honest, nothing is a bomb-diggady. just normal in my opinion.

Central Festival Mall
Newly developed mall in Hatyai brought up the status of Hatyai, in my opinion. The mall is very new with many international shops including H&M, UNIQLO, ETUDE HOUSE and so on... They even have ice- skating rink.
MU Shop lot available in Central Festival Mall
Off we go to Asean Night Market for our real shopping spree.
Recommended booth for legos

5baht sushi
We had about 3 hours walk in the market and I thought we broke our feet.
Could not get the overview photo of the market due to the crowd. The night market has been well renovated with proper walkway and lots.

We ended the night with some beers.

Wake up in the morning was tough. We had a deep sleep due to too much shopping. Called for room service and ordered 3 sets of breakfast. Super fast and it is only 90baht/ dish.
90baht? Say what?!
Got ourselves prepared and off we go to Lee Garden for some snacks and top-up on our shopping galore.
Tried their birds' nest and fried oyster for the first time. Each costs 150baht.

Had our last shopping in Lee Garden. In case you could not find any transport there to dannok, dont worry. Hop on tuk-tuk and ask them to bring you to their bus station. You could easily get one even during peak season.

We had our MCD dinner in Dannok. Disappointing that their burgers are out of stock. We got their rice instead.

Feel free to comment below for any questions or anything you wanted to know about my trip.Hope that I can help you in planning your trip!
Happy travelling!

  1. Outstanding photographs!! I hope you enjoyed your trip to Thailand. These food pictures are driving me hungry and I feel like visiting my neighborhood Thai food restaurant. You know the venues for events in Chicago are really popular and also offer Thai cuisines that are really yummy!!

    1. Hi Crystal,

I took mini van back to the border. U know the one that can fit up to 15pax one? The main station is near to central festival. You can tell tuktuk to bring u over to the bus station from
      Lee garden.

    2. Thank you so much for your reply, Rita!
Well, since they can drop off at Lee Garden, do you think there is anyway I can hop on the minivan from Lee Garden, instead of the bus station?

    3. Well, probably no because there's no booth or stall collecting the ticket fare. I believe you cannot directly pay the driver. Maybe you can try and tell me then :D
